In the province of Alberta and the Northeast Alberta Information Hub Ltd. area the aerospace industry consists of three major components: commercial aviation, military aviation and space. Alberta-wide, the industry is estimated to generate almost 700 million dollars in total annual revenues. Two-thirds of these revenues are generated by services.
Within the Hub region, service (repair and overhaul) businesses are a key component of the aerospace sector. The industry is comprised of approximately 50 companies with almost 800 employees.
The maintenance repair and overhaul businesses are based throughout the Hub region but are primarily located in Lloydminster and Cold Lake. Other key sub-sectors in the region include: ground based aviation infrastructure, avionics, design and support services.
The City of Cold Lake is home to Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake (4-Wing). This is one of the largest DND air force establishments in Canada. It has three main runways including two that exceed ten thousand feet. 4-Wing is home to a number of Lodger units involved in world-renowned business projects. These include the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE) as well as several private companies located on the base.

Northeast Alberta Information Hub Ltd. is strategically located to support existing companies in the aerospace sector. It has the infrastructure and skilled personnel required by companies involved in the various sub-sectors of aerospace who may be interested in locations for business operation.
The region also boasts some exceptional post-secondary institutes that have a proven track record in providing custom tailored programs to new and existing industries as they establish and expand in the region.
Local Expertise
There is a large skilled labor force that for almost 25 years has been involved in the aerospace sector. For example, the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment employs 340 personnel, including 40 civilians. Many of these jobs are in engineering and other skilled trades.
With regard to the maintenance repair and overhaul sub-sector, there are a variety of companies throughout the Hub area that employ skilled labor and provide an expertise required by the most sophisticated companies involved in the aerospace sector.
