About AlbertaHub Industry ClusterMap
In 1995 Alberta Economic Development's St. Paul's office initiated the beginning of Hub by bringing together communities to discuss regional marketing tools. It was incorporated in 2000 as the Northeast Alberta Information Hub Ltd. The framework involves 24 municipalities in Northeast Alberta.
Hub is supported by a database titled the Business Attraction Information System (B.A.I.S.). This is a powerful economic development tool that contains information about communities and their businesses. Hub's Board of Directors is comprised of 11 members, of which 10 are represented by councils.
In the spring of 2001, the Board of Directors of Northeast Alberta Information Hub Ltd. identified a need to pursue opportunity identification in the region. Working with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Hamilton Myriadgate, the concept and design for a ClusterMap was developed. In February 2002, a sub-committee of Hub comprised of Kathryn Kozak Wiebe (Mayor - Town of Bonnyville), Judy Woyewitka (Mayor - Town of Vermilion), Glenn Andersen (Councillor - Town of St. Paul), and Scott Kovatch (EDO - City of Lloydminster) identified four industry clusters. These industry clusters, which are key components of the Hub region, are Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Value Added Goods, and Education & Training.
